What are the effets of it on our planet?

If we could find and get to a planet like Jupiter, and found that it was habitable, we would all want to go and not come back. Just the sheer size of Jupiter would make it possible for everyone to have their own little (or BIG) place to call home ! The effects might be that Earth would be left with no humans, or very few, and eventually, humans would become extinct.

What makes you think we are going to space just "for the fun of it"? Are you unaware that the device upon which you typed this question is a by-product of that effort? The adverse effects on our planet are minuscule.
