I copied this from "habitant" who answered this question 3 months ago. All cudos to "habitant."

tyrone b i did some research on that and its only Joe Lamb of the Montreal Canadiens that have worn #99.and the two others you have mentioned Desse Roche - Leo Bourgault arent even on the Montreal Canadiens list can you show me where they are.

I believe Rick Dudley wore 99 when he spent a brief period of time in Winnipeg as a Jet. Paiement wore it throughout his career.

I'm not sure if the number has officially been retired throughout the NHL. For practical purposes, though, no one is anxious to follow that particular act.

After he put it on no one would dare wear it.
Still laugh at Brian Lawton and his #98 after being a number one pick. Guy was a total bust.
