I recently had my relationship end in a violent way...I was knocked around, slapped and bruised up...I really thought this was the man for me, he had the brains and everything...We were both tired and a little tipsy..He promised that he would never hurt me in such a way, but the broken heart hurts more than the bruises...How will I get over him?

If the relationship is over, thank God. Most of the time they don't end until someone is really hurt badly. Under no circumstances should you take him back. If a man hits you once, he will hit you again. You didn't do anything--no wife does anything that deserves this kind of treatment. He probably learned this behavior from his father. Ask his mom if she is still around.

For starters, being tipsy is no excuse and does not diminish in any capacity what he did. He did not have everything, if he did he would not have hurt you. You need to take off the rose colored glasses and see this man for what he is - an abuser!

Never try to justify abuse with alcohol! That is such a copout. Just be glad that its over... Remember that men like that never change... not to mention that we cant change anyone!

Time will be your best friend... If you feel you need to cry then cry your eyes out... LET IT OUT!
Keep yourself busy
Hang out with your girlfriends
Work
Exercise

There are many things that can help you.

Good luck :)

once you come to your senses and realize that you are in a dangerous relationship, getting away from him will be the problem. I would start now if I were you and get some help from whoever - friends, family, law enforcement, family services.
once is once too many.

you did nothing wrong and you did the right thing to get away. i agree that broken hearts hurt more, b/c how do you treat it? no excuse for you to be physically manhandled like that.
