Nowhere in the world can Americans go other than America and celebrate the 4th of July and have whatever country they are in be subjected to all the festivities. So I am wondering why the hell do news channels cover parties for this...well whatever the hell it is. I was born and raised in America. I am of mexican decent, my grandmother (x5) came to America LEGALLY. So I dont have a damn clue as to what this stupid cinco de mayo is, nor do I care. So why the hell should I be seeing anything to do with it in America...Can you YAHOOers tell me why?

Krrazzie, is it pride too? What the hell are you talking about, you seem like a complete jackass, lol...Meshel16...yes in my face, lol, you sound sooo educated, so whats the lesson Im supposed to learn...that millions of mexicans and a whole lot of stupid a$$ Americans like drinking like imbeciles for absolutely no good reason? And hey Writersblock, LETS NOT FORGET, times change, so you just wanna let anyone and everyone in huh? Oh ok, so how would you feel if a terrorist comes into our country since YOU want to let anyone in cause we're a melting pot! And he sets up camp right behind you and your familys home...Love to see how that would turn out for ya. I just dont think cinco de mayo should be in American schools, and shouldnt be on our tv...but either way, yes of course, if I dont like it I can just change it...but at the same time, I shouldnt have to, it shouldnt be on American tv....

Have you ever studied history?
Do you know that parts of the USA belonged to Mexico?
Mexican people have been here longer then non Mexicans have.
We are a country full of immigrants. I hope that never changes.

In much of Latin America the 4th of July is celebrated.

The United States was the first independent nation in the Western Hemisphere, and it opened the way for every other country to become independent.

And you are wrong. Most of the people in the United States who are of Mexican descent were born here or immigrated legally. They far outnumber the illegals. Many of them are as angry about illegal immigration as you and I are.

You are absolutely within your rights to ignore Cinco de Mayo, but others who celebrate it do so as part of their heritage. I am not Latino, by the way. I am U.S. born with Polish and German grandparents.

Many Mexican-Americans are much closer to their Mexican roots than you are, and many have relatives and friends who live in Mexico. There is no great harm in them celebrating Mexican holidays and taking pride in their heritage. I take pride in mine, even if I don't celebrate German or Polish holidays.

The beauty of this country is that we can accomodate a lot of different cultures and not only tolerate them but also to celebrate them. I very much enjoy Asian-Pacific celebrations, for example, because I find them interesting, and I have spent a small amount of time studying some Mexican history as it impacts our country.

I live about 120 miles from the Mexican border, by the way, in Texas. I have spent time in Mexico and I like the people.

I do think illegal immigration is a problem, but don't distort it to the point where all Mexican-Americans are bad guys. You obviously aren't a bad guy...

Well like you theres a tremendous mexican base citizenship in America--like it or not.
The minority will be a majority in a few decades.

It seems that corporations have finally caught the fact that this is a demographic they should start promoting. Lets not forget, business is about money, not about race.

So, they must cater to whatever will bring in revenue.

Lets not forget America is a melting pot.

We promote freedom and respect.
If you dont agree, go live in your little cave and dont come out on the 5th of May.

A wise person wants to know where they came from, a respectful person honours their previous generation.
So where does that leave you who seems to hold contempt for other groups of people.

I would say a hateful, disrespectful idiot whos self absorbed as they come.
Hopefullly one day youll grow up

I don't really know why we celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Everyone thinks it is mexico's independance Day.
But I do celebrate it...I go and watch the cinco de mayo show at my school...i go to the lake where everyone is bar-b-queing...maybe it's just an excuse for people to party.

Ra-right!. We don't need no stinkin' Cinco De Mayo!

But...Aye, Caramba! We wou like to keep the taquila.

On thinking it over - we need all the celebrations we can get these troubled days...Let's not get our priorities mixed-up. Keep pinatas and all the 'happy' stuff and concentrate on putting a stop to the nationally debilitating influx of illegals.

1) people love an excuse to drink. the 4th is too far off for most people that are looking for a good reason to get drunk in the near future.

2) its a good kick off to the summer.

3) when else can you slam tequilla and mass quantities of dos equis and corona and not feel bad about it the next day if not than.

Because there is money in it. It is a bigger holiday in the USA than it is it Mexico.
Just like St Patrick's day.. Americans will celebrate any holiday that has drinking .
