My computer won't detect my Camera, but my messanger does?

Question

For a while, I've been trying to make a video on my webcam to send to a friend, and whenever I get into the webcam program, it says my webcam isn't plugged in, no matter how many times I take it out and put it in.
I've tried re-installing it, and it didn't work.
and when I talked to my friend on MSN messanger, I sent him a 'view webcam' request, and it worked!
Any help? ;~;

Did this video program come with the webcam? What is the name of the webcam program of which you speak?
