For instance, a pupil is given a homework assignment, e.i.use this word in a sentence...Instead of learning the word and it's meaning, instead of actually studying, the pupil can come on here ask how the word is used, in which context and it;s meaning and variations, in less then 2 minutes. And be free to mess about on the Internet the rest of the time. The pupil then chooses an answer, completes their home work and submits it as their own effort.....isn't this like cheating? Where was the "work" in homework, how can the pupil be expected to learn and remember something if they took very little if any effort to complete their assigment.

this category is called homework "help" meaning to assist not to do for.

I'm not saying not to give help, but when the entire question is e.i.: Tell me how to use this word in a sentence or which one of these sentences is correct?
Then you have pretty much done the homework for them, right?

Absolutely. There is not a lot of 'help' given on the site, more frequently it is simply providing answers for someone else's homework. Instead of looking up a word in the dictionary, students come on line and ask what a word means. They aren't learning how to look up words, they aren't discovering the full meanings of words, or the sources (which can help them in deducing the meaning of other words).
Same in math. Siimply plopping a question on Homework Help doesn't really help the student if all that happens is that people provide answers. The student has no idea how that answer was arrived at. Sure, they can copy it on their homework and turn it in and get a good mark -- but what happens at exam time, when they are faced with a similar question and have no idea how to do it?
There are numerous examples of requests for information that the students could find by simply typing a word into a search engine, but they expect someone else to do it for them.
I agree with you 100%. I don't know how it could be monitored, but it must drive teachers wild when they see some of the homework that is handed in....

My biggest gripe with this category is the student who asks a thoughtful question that obviously will use the readings he's supposed to have done, and expects us to give him an answer written in the form of an essay which he can then just copy and paste into his own essay and be done. I used to refuse to answer those, but have discovered that is a violation of community guidelines. So, now, if I can think of a way to force him to think through what is being asked, I'll go to great lengths to help him. But if I can't, I just don't answer at all. It does seem like cheating when a student attempts to have his entire assignment done by a generous answerer. Plus, we're not always right.

I guess the best thing one can do is just not answer the question. It's really not helping anyone. I mean, you can tell when a person probably really does need help and when someone is just playing around. Like we shouldn't answer people who post their tests/quizzes on here. I see that a lot.

you do no longer point out which video card you propose to get, which, for a gaming workstation, is very significant (or the ability grant, for that remember). You act as though the CPU and visual show unit(s) are the only issues, insofar as the way you ought to allocate your funds. you ought to state what your finished funds is, which contain the visual show unit(s). Which video card and power grant do you propose to apply? many of the time, game enthusiasts for sure attempt to make the suited use of available snap shots power via turning up decision and high quality settings, until the configuration is slightly GPU constrained (so the pastime seems at good as achieveable, yet with out slowing down tremendously). What this suggests is, in maximum video games, it is the video card which will become the proscribing factor in gaming overall performance, no longer the CPU. in short, multiple benchmarks shows, see you later as you're making use of a minimum of an i5-750, then the video card is a much greater significant factor in determining gaming overall performance, than which CPU you run. you may even see no significant distinction between an i5-750 and i7-920 working video games. (whether you intentionally concoct settings that emphasize organic CPU overall performance, the version is basically some share factors. With usual GPU constrained settings, there is quite no distinction.) on the different hand, in case you ought to run video enjoying cards in an SLI or Crossfire, then the motherboard chipset will become a factor too. if so, that's advisable to make your ideas up on an X58 motherboard (socket 1366), over a P55 one (socket 1156), through greater suitable bandwidth on the video slots (as an occasion, twin x16 slots, while in comparison with twin x8, or x16 plus x4). additionally, in case you propose to enhance later, do no longer ignore how those factors are interrelated. while you are going to run twin video enjoying cards, you are going to make your ideas up on an even bigger power grant. in case you propose to run video games on intense decision 1920 x 1200 video show gadgets, or twin video show gadgets, then you fairly're going to make your ideas up on a multitude of video power. (For gaming at resolutions over approximately 1680 x 1050, twin video enjoying cards is a greater effectual selection.)

i really think it depends. when i help someone in this category, i try to explain the entire problem and how to solve it. usually that requires actually working out the problem to illustrate the solving method. i don't think it's fair to say we shouldn't help anyone in this forum at all, especially if they're only asking one question out of their entire homework assignment.

If students use this site to copy answers they are only hurting themselves by not actually learning anything.
