True to some extent, but I think the Cable TV industry has a pretty good chance of staying.
The industry will change, but if you are familiar with the history of television, it has made monumental changes since the first TV broadcasts in the pre-World War II time frame.
Take a look at radio--the industry in which I work. It has made enormous changes since the advent of prime time television. In the 1950s people actually predicted radio would die because of television. Radio didn't die. It changed.
I think television will change too. Not everyone will go for on-demand television. If you have access to satellite television take a look at the channels and the variety available, and you will see what I mean. I think this is a large part of the future of television.
Much of the problem is due to the lack of quality entertainment on broadcast television, and this is where cable seems to be meeting that need.

Dying? I didn't know it was alive! Sorry, couldn't resist. One could debate, however, whether a "live" show (i.e. Live with Regis and Kelly) if you are not in the studio itself...
I pretty much agree with your question/idea. The options of what a person can watch on the 'net are endless. Coupled with the fact that, unfortunately, there is a lot of movie and tv content that is pirated and shown here...I would say that TV will have to make some substantial changes if it hopes to stay around in the long term.
The TV/cable networks will probably do one of two things - one push the envelope straight into the mailbox. Basically do everything that is taboo (and such personally I think should remain that way) in order to draw in viewers. Or the second would be to improve the shows/programs, etc, have better written shows, and also be more inventive in making new shows.
It seems like forever ago, but at one point - "Survivor" had its first season and blew everyone away. Now those shows are old hat. If TV keeps copying what works and not being inventive, people can find such dribble on the 'net for free.

Agree...but people let themselves be coerced by all the marketing ploys and buy up all the new toys and gizmos etc...can you blame corporations whose only aim is to beat out their competition and give the viewers exactly what they want?
Do you know they use porn as the big "converter" for new formats? They did it with the VHS/BETA tape wars...then dvds...now they are doing it with the new format of DVDs....just wave that carrot under thier noses and they will gallop right on up and take a huge bite.
I loved plain old tv as it was when it was all free...I refuse to be manipulated into all that and basic cable suits me just fine!

Television is dying, its slowly being replaced by the internet with sites like YouTube and others.
Online we get to see what we want to see, when we want to see....thats the biggest reason for tv dying.
