I've had my four poster bed for my entire married like 30+ years. I still love it. But, two extra posts give you two extra things to hand onto or to hang your clothes on.

Disadvantage -- making the bed with your bedspread.

Why do I now have the feeling that whoever asked this question was expecting a bondage-type answer?

I love four posted beds. My grandmother had two in her bedroom and I used to sleep in one when I would spend the night with her. I guess I have warm, fuzzy thoughts when I see a four post bed. I don't know any disadvantages to them, except you don't want one if you have real low ceilings and when they aren't in use they would take up a bit more space. Aside from that, they have become real popular lately. Most people I know like four post beds.

disadvantages:
1) personally, i think their ugly...
2) they remind me of a childs bed
3) there is absolutley no storage space, except under the bed...which is just messy and not to mention nasty
4) i just dont feel safe in them because of the 4 posts...i feel more secure in a bed with all sides touching the ground (i know...it sounds crazy...)
5) old-fashioned...

the only advantage that i could think of, but is not a fact...is that they must be cheaper...but is it really worth getting a bed that is cheap, when you spend 1/3 of your life on that bed, you might as well get the best that you can afford...i hope this helps...:)

Advantages:
Standing much straighter than beds with two posts;
Less likely to fall over than beds with three posts;
Cheaper than beds with 5 posts.

Disadvantages:
You get four times the chance of banging your toes into something compared to beds without posts;
People might try to handcuff you to one or more of the posts;
In states of altered perception, you could mistake the bed for a bison.
