All right, I would go to open gym for Basketball and I would play good but I would never get respect from the people there because like they so called thugs and they only give respect to there friends who they know.

How should I deal with this?
And how do I get my respect?

Why do you need their respect?

Play as well as you can and show them up if you are more talanted. If you are consistently playing well that's how you earn respect.

When I was a freshman in highschool I was playing in open gym with a bunch of seniors and wanted to contribute even though I wasn't being passed the ball so I started dominating the boards even though I was about 5 foot 7 at the time simply by effort and boxing out

I got noticed for my effort and was always picked for teams and was given the opportunity to show myself

Just be consistent in making other folks look bad. You gotta make whoever they put on u a mismatch in your favor. Keep working at your game, keep playing your game, and play hard till u get u a swagger and the respect will follow. No one questions or disrespects a player who hustles and plays hard but respect comes quicker when u don't just do good, you gotta KILL and have that KILLER INSTINCT.

just go out and play for fun. its not always about competition and respect.
if you love basketball, just play it.
who cares if you dont play like the others.
not everyone has a great voice, but all of us have sung at least once in our lives, because it feels good.

You want respect on the court, you light them up on the court, respect is earned, not given.
