i got silver dollar for about 2 years now hes big his friend past on just couple days ago, should i buy another silver dollar or his going to fine by him self

They do not necessarily have to be in pairs. Most characins such as silver dollars (Note: I said most) are more secure and do better in schools/shoals of 6 or more fish. You can keep him alone if you do not have enough space, or you can get a school of young fish and upgrade to a bigger tank later on.

If you have the tank space, then by all means, buy a school!

In response to the answers under mine, Silver Dollars are mainly herbivorous. They should not eat or bully smaller fish.

Silver dollars tend to do best in groups, so he would do better if you get another one. If you have the space getting a small group of 5-6 would be very best.

Get a fish the same size as the one you have. Yours will eat a smaller one.

From my experience,it's better if you get about three at one time,but the one you have now will most likely do OK without another one.

If you do get another one make sure it is relativly the same size so the new one doesnt get picked on to much. you could get several more just make sure you have a tank big enough for them to grow in

no you do not need to buy any more fish. i have a fish that is 3 years old and my other fish was about 2 years old when it passed away the one that is 3 is doing fine and is getting bigger and biger
