I am a service person who went into a commercial building to make a repair, while I was there I noticed signs of a major construction flaw that could potentially cause harm or even death to those people who work in the building. Should I make a big deal about this and file a formal complaint with the state and potentially cause the loss of jobs for the engineer who designed the building and the inspector who approved the plans or should I just fix the problem and let it go. The building is only 3 years old and anyone with any sort of education in the field should have noticed the problem before the building was erected.

Tell the building owners...they are the only ones who have standing to complain. They can retain legal counsel to sue for compensation to make the repairs. Contractors, engineers and architects usually carry insurance for situations like this...to pay for mistakes they made.

Absolutely! There is no doubt in my mind that you should file that complaint. If the engineer losing work or his job is something that makes you feel guilty or bad, just think of it this way: An engineer loses his job VS: Even just one person losing their life because of this flaw. I am sorry but I would most defintely file the complaint. What if other buildings this engineer has been a part of are flawed? Maybe they will be able to check up on other buildings and HOPEFULLY prevent a serious inury or even death.

Are you insane? Lives are at stake and you are waiting? FIle the complaint and do it now. Go to mass and beg for forgiveness... if you need to purge your soul. If they are so lame as to pass this kind of flaw ask yourself" what other kinds of errors have they made and how many more will they make?"
