I concur with Divinity - "excess males" are removed from the community for innocuous behavior: holding hands, listening to unapproved music, watching PBS, etc.
Not all polygamist societies work that well for the women either. The yahoo 'recovery from mormonism' board has several accounts of the plight of a young woman named Laurice who just lost custody of her children to her polygamist husband. She has no family to turn to for help, no real skills to apply to the workforce, nothing for rent or clothing. Her current plight is no different than the 'lost boys' of southern Utah.
I will never have respect for any organization that condones practice this past or present.

if you watched the Mormon documentary did not you see the part about Brigham Young and Joesph Smith took other men's wives in certain cases..also they had a lot more girl babies over the boys..just like today there are more women then there are men...in Calgary, Canada there are about 10 women for every man..Denver has about a seven to one ration in favor of the women...plus you see some of the women that these men married./? they were not all 16 year old girls...some were very old...but then again only the rich Mormons or the top leaders in the Mormon community could afford multiple wives..how many wives could you afford..?? I am having trouble with the one wife i have already..lol

At the time a lot of men died, they were murdered or died on the mormon treck. There were a lot of widows, and women who had no one to marry.
Nowadays "mormon" sects that live in Utah and practice polygamy (one of the prophets has been arressted, he was on americas most wanted) they actually do kick out men from their "society" these boys/men are called the lost boys. Those people are not LDS they are whatever else they call themselves. If they were members of our church teh LDS one they would be excommunicated.

I don't think there are any polygamous societies where a majority of people are actually involved in a plural marriage. I think the number of unmarried men makes up for the number of extra wives that polygamous men have.

Polygamists are supposed to marry the widows of their brothers, and since they're widows, obviously they're there when the first husband is not, so that makes more women than men, right?

Simple. They throw out the "sub-standard" men before they graduate high school, become adults and are able to marry. Boys who hold hands with girls in public before their parents had a chance to arrange a marriage or such, makes them sub-standard mormons.

look at the male to female ratios of just about every country and you will see that women outnumber the men...what started out in perfect balance, GOD created adam and eve...and it seem that for each male there was a female...but the very first war took that balance out of whack, by killing off large numbers of the men. it has never recovered, and each war the world has...large scale or small, further deteriorates that balance.
