I live in Missouri, the southwestern part and I have been told that lemon trees don't grow here. So I was wondering if I could plant one in a bucket or something? Or how could I start one in a bucket and then how to keep it producing fruit after transplanting it to the ground.

In your area, I would say it would never survive in the ground. Container growing is your best bet. Check out sites like Citrus North. These are people who grow all types of citrus in areas not made to handle them.

You can grow one from a seed, I did in kansas. But to make it grow lemons you have to graph a limb from a lemon producing tree.

Don't plant it in the ground. They like sunny windows and seem to thrive in buckets.
