Dude, how insensitive can you possibly be? Take a look around you. Who do you see? Your wife, your child, maybe if you're younger one of your parents or siblings. Now imagine that someone bursts through your front door and shoots them dead right in front of you. Now think about your plans for the next few days. Maybe you have a work assignment due or perhaps you are supposed to go and renew your license. Would they seem as important to you if something like this happened? Would you be able to focus and do your best while thinking about the tragedy you'd just experienced? Didn't think so! If everyone was as cold hearted as you, you would have to suck it up, but in the process you'd probably get fired for not performing adequately.
A cop out would be saying that I couldn't study for the finals because I lost the study materials.....Not I couldn't study because I can't get the images of my friends being murdered out of my head.
Reality is knowing that no one could perform at their fullest potential in the wake of such a mind altering experience.
Maybe, just maybe, it's YOU that needs to grow up!!!
ADDED: I just read the addition to your post and you say "in your profession" you have witnessed as many if not more deaths. Well, sir, if your job entails you seeing death on a regular basis, then that's your choice. There are other jobs out there if you don't feel comfortable, but you obviously do. However these were college students, not military personnel, not cops or firefighters. There "profession" was academics. Witnessing death is not a part of their "job description" as it was yours. There is a huge difference....you ASKED for it by choosing the profession you chose. These kids did not, and unfortunately in was thrust upon them anyway. Furthermore I feel very sorry for those that were unfortunate enough to die in your arms, knowing that you didn't give a rats *** about them either.
Your attempt to validate yourself by adding this information failed miserably.

Dude--we can't know what it must be like to attend that college. Tuition will be down in the years to come. I would change my mind if I got accepted for the fall 2007 as a Freshman for sure!
Let their faculty and staff make the decisions. It's their lives, not mine. When you pay $33K a year via loans, scholarships, etc, for such an education, you need the best grades possible and the safest place in which to learn. Obviously this campus is NOT safe. There's death all around and a very unhealthy environment. Things ARE NOT back to normal.
Half the school is chicks. College should be a stimulating place and fun, not a freaking war zone/grave yard.
For you to even suggest they should grow up is not addressing the problems. Until you actually are enrolled in that school, taking mega loans out to pay to go there, don't diss what you haven't done. Being a VT student this year would suck. Case closed.

Traumatic events like this sometimes seriously impairs brain function making it almost impossible for students to focus and concentrate on work without thinking a trillion times over about another gunman roaming the halls or dorms.
Have you ever been in a serious car accident? Did it make you not want to drive for a very long time again - or at least very cautiously? It's the same type of situation that alters your brain chemistry until time passes when things return to "normal."
Try not to judge those people. You really have to see things in a different perspective from their situation.

that seems really callous to say that with what those students have been through. do you really think you would be able to study and concentrate for your finals after 30+ people were violently murdered on your campus? I know you would not be able to and it would be unfair to make you or them take finals while still grieving and dealing with a horrible tragedy. I would rather take 100 finals then go through what they have gone through. It has nothing to do with growing up, no doubt it is a school policy in place before the murders.

In your former profession, you were no doubt expecting to see some deaths, and it was part of your job. This no doubt helped you to cope with it. Nevertheless, I strongly suspect that it has affected you more than you suggest. After all, you are not made of wood.
The VT incident was completely outside the students' expectations. Anyway, it was an administrative decision and I'm not going to argue with it.

Yeah but you are expected to have those kind of fatalities. You joined the military to serve our country and fight enemies. Deaths in your platoon or squad is a possibility. Deaths are not expected to happen in school. It is a place of learning and discovery of life and not death. I think that a little consideration should be given to them. They wouldn't be in Virginia Tech anyways if they don't have good grades prior. I doubt you have that. I think that anyone who asks this kind of question must have the same mind as the killer. Just an opinion..

May I ask what your former profession was?
How old were you when you witnessed your first person killed/dying in front of you?
Were you involved in the actual violence that took place?
Did your profession prepare or warn you of what to expect?
Were you pretty much helpless do anything?
Were you practically trapped in an area?

Try to have some compassion, I'm sure they are not going to pass everyone and give them an A for the courses, they are just eliminating the final.
