The area of a parallelogram is equal to the base times the height. You can see this because if you cut out the triangle sticking out of one side and add that section to the other side, it forms a rectangle.
So your equation is: Area=Base * Height
You are given the area and the base therefore you can plug these two things in:
84 = 12 * height
Then solve for the height by dividing by twelve and you get your answers:
84/12 = height
7 = height
