Ok, I heard a rumor that in the rap battles in 8 mile, the guys were actually freestyling (thinking of the rhymes off the top of there head). Is that true or was it a script?

More rappers freestyle than you would guess. It's called street credentials. You can't be glancing at a piece of paper in the heat of battle. It just won't fly.

i've heard people from detroit say that 8 mile is just a road and there's nothing at all special about it. there's some houses and some trees and then you're 9 or 7 mile depending on what way you're going.
