i keep seeing it all over the internet, especially yahoo answers. for example, in this question (DONT SOLVE IT FOR ME OR I WONT PICK YOU AND ILL REPORT UR ANSWER) What's the value of (10-5)^2 + 12/4? what does the ^ stand for?

2^2 means 2 squared, or 2 to the second power. 3^6 means 3 to the sixth power and so own. Just exponents.

As the person above me said, it is a symbol of POWER. 2^3 means 2 raised to the power of 3.

It comes from how most computer programming language denotes power. Also, if you see an astrisk "*", it means MULTIPLY.

it's the carrot it means to the second or squared in the example you have given whatever number follows the carrot is what needs to be for the equations. If it is ^3 it means cubed etc.
