Not a good idea. It can be extremely dangerous.
Just because I do something does not mean I advocate it.

Most drivers, even the ones who look for motorcycles, do not expect to see them on the road in the winter.

You must be at least a decent rider to begin with.
You MUST be prepared to have your bike slide down the road, with you off or even under it.
You must have traction, studded tires or some other means.
You will need to be able to stay warm, yet not overheat. This is really some exercise.

Your best bet would be to add a sidecar. A rig won't fall over on you.

I didn't give details because I don't want you to kill yourself.
I have the benefit of a short commute, little traffic, and a reputation for riding in any weather. In other words, they are expecting and looking for me.

The best precaution is to watch the weather forecast and not ride in it if at all possible. However, if you do get caught in it, like I have on a few occasions, take it slow and steady and make sure that you don't follow anyone close enough that you have to step on your brakes and no sudden moves of any kind. Slushy, heavy wet stuff is the worst because it's borderline freezing underneath. Once snow has compacted in a nice white hard surface it's not quite as bad, but if I had my 'druthers, I really try to stay out of it.

It is one thing to ride in the winter when it is cold, but it is totally different to be riding in the snow. A motorcycle has limited traction in the best of conditions, but in the snow and slush, traction is none existent. Your best bet is to walk or drive a car when snow has fallen.

Of course, if you are talking about riding on a properly frozen lake or off road, then you need good knobby tires and lots of warm layers of clothing.

A word of warning, watch out for the trees if riding fast through the woods in the snow. Trees tend to jump at you and can be just as bad as inattentive drivers.
Stay Warm and
Ride Safe

well, if your set on riding in the snow, i would reccommmend getting a dirt bike, i have a ttr 125 that is an absolute blast to ride in the snow... stud the tires and take her on the ice for some more fun too, make sure you wear protective clothing/knee pads/elbow pads/helmet... warm clothes as well.

now, if you talking about riding on the street with a street bike, i would not reccommend doing that at all. that is just plain dangerious

put on your favorite pair of sweats and fat comfy socks and an old worn out sweat shirt you know the one you cant make your self throw away grab a nice hot cup of coffee or a cold beer depending on time of day , secure a copy of your favorite motorsickle publication and settle back in your favorite chair infront of a roaring fire and read until you fall asleep to dream of riding your bike in much more favorable conditions . Bikes and snow don't mix

Is it essential to actually ride in the snow? You may just want to wait that one out.Visibility can be very poor as well as traction.Don't forget about the other drivers on the road who don't respect motorcycles in general...ABATE.........Good Luck.
