Why do some conservatives compare dems with communists?

They like to associate socialist democrats with the totalitarian soviets, it makes us look evil when in fact they're the ones profiting off a war. Soviet Russia was totalitarian, not socialist. Anyone considered out of the norm was murdered by those in power: Homosexuals, minorities, he mentally/physically handicapped, which, as you know, the democrat party is strong with in America. They just like to mix up history/facts to make them seem the opposite of what we and they really are.
For example, when they shout "REPUBLICANS FREED THE SLAVES!!" They're trying to imply that dems are slave owners just because back then the entire south was democrat (it's republican now, politics ha changed) It's propaganda meant to grab a few weak minded supporters

Socialism is the most evolved political philosophy and will continue to advance the human race despite the attempts of those with all the $$ buying elections and demonizing us. Most of them know this too and are just trying to slow it down

People tend to throw names around as insults.

But you should keep in mind that name of the USSR was "the Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics" All Communists consider themselves SOCIALISTS.

Socialism is a broad catagory that describe all systems of governments where the government takes care of many things usually not done by non-social governments (such as Medical Care, welfare, etc).

In this sence American Socialists are similair to Communists. The main difference, I believe, is that American Socialists still believe in a competetive marketplace were private citizens (rather than the government) control buisiness. Of course the government should always regulate buisiness (regardless of whether it is sociallist or not)

People who are against widespread socialism in the U.S. are so because they believe it will eliminate many freedoms we enjoy today. For instance as a member of the military I have government run healthcare. As such, if I have a problem I must go to my doctor (even if he's completely inept!) I just don't have any choice to go to another. I usually have to wait at least a couple weeks before I can get an appointment with him. Then on the other hand -- it's free.

As a general rule, anything run by the government will be fair, but on the other hand it will also be far less effiecient, more expensive (via taxes), and of inferior quality. This is true of Healthcare, Medicare, Social Security, you name it.

Do you realize that 80% of the Medicare budget goes to the beurocracy to run the Medicare program? This means only 20% remains to actually help the poor with medical bills.

As outrageous as that amount of government waste may seem, it is actually about average for most government programs.

Anyhow, these are some of the reasons frusterated conservatives have refered to liberals and socialists as "communists". They are simply trying to make a point, even if the analogy is not entirely accurate.

Lies and propaganda is the only way they can win converts.

For example, they like to confuse people into believing the KKK is a liberal organization. They reason well today's Democratic party is overwhelmingly liberal (and based in the yankee northeast) and the KKK was started by southern (conservative) Democrats in the past, therefore that means the KKK is a liberal organization. They like to bring up Byrd from 50 years ago when David Duke last run as a Republican in 2004.

the unfortunate thing about the truth is that it is simple and unexciting. while a lie on the other hand can be as elaborate and exciting as anything one could imagine. america as a culture has bought into hollywood to such a degree that the candidate for truth will lose everytime. why because he is boring and we want a fantasy. republicans are taking this to the bank. so really you could just about expect to hear anything when it comes to this power struggle that is going on in this country. and when they get caught n lies money takes care of it.

Stupidity. It's obvious that they don't know what communism is but they know its a bad thing so they use it. I don't allow people to call me that and I always ask for a definition when they try to use it.

the liberal movement in this country was founded by communist in the 1940s and 1950s.......the movement really blossomed when the communist introduced recreational drugs into the mainstream and started the hippie movement of the 1960s....before that they mostly concentrated on Hollywood and putting communist ideas forward through movies
