Because there is no more British Empire since India became self governing in 1947. The rest of the former colonies are all independent nations, though many of them belong to an association called the Commonwealth.

From Queen Victoria to King George 6th then where title Emperor/Empress of India. the other land where colonies of the British Crown and so no other title was need. India had it own government and leader called a Raj so when the british took over it became the British Raj

opposite to the different respondent, the Queen isn't the 'Duke' of everywhere, as this could be a male call, neither is she a Duchess. neither is she a Lord, that's a male call. She is the Queen of uk of GB and NI, its dependencies and the Commonwealth. As for why we use the words King or Queen there is is maximum possibly an entymological reason at the back of this, in that we arrived at those titles by using language fairly than a chosen political call.

their don't control anything outside the UK.
The Queen is still head of state, but that will change one day.
