Put all of your pictures into one directory. Right click on the directory and click "Properties"
It will tell you how large that directory is. Then you can purchase a flash drive that is larger than that size so you know it will fit all of your pictures.

if you have all the pictures in one place just select them all if there are other things in the folder and right click one and hit properties. It will tell you the size of the selection. If they aren't together do the same thing on each one and add it up. To transfer the pictures to another computer you can send a series of emails, set up an ftp server or simply use the flash drive. The ftp server would be easiest in my opinion, if there are more pictures than a few trips would take on the flash drive. Filezilla and fireftp work great.

Simply select all the pictures (or select the folders which contain the pictures), Right Click> Properties and look at the number after "Size:"
Considering you have 1000 pictures, this value could range anywhere from 100Mb to 2000Mb (2Gb)
Flash drives come in, 32Mb, 64Mb, 128Mb, 256Mb, 512Mb, 1Gb (1024Mb), 2Gb (2048Mb), ect...
Just find the size larger than the size of you pictures, and you're in buisness.
However, many times these drives are expensive compared to the size they hold, so you could instead buy a smaller sized drive and store a quarter of the pictures and move them to where you want, and repeat the proccess until your done.
Another option would be to store them on CDs, which can hold about 700Mb, and you'd just create a few, but these are normally permenent, compared to a USB drive which would be used many times for many different documents.
CD price- about $0.18 per CD
USB price- about $20.00 for 256Mb (prices vary, could be anywhere from $10.00 to $50.00 for 512Mb and 1Gb drives.)

You need two things:
1. The size of your flash memory: Click in Start -> My Computer and select the memory. The size and other details will be shown
2. The size of the pictures. In the Windows Explorer select all the pictures. Total size of the pictures appears down of the Windows Explorer (status bar)

depending on the resolution of the pics assuming they are jpegs they could be from 1-20 mb in size but you are probably around the 1-2mb file size i would guess. So 6GB. Best to get a dvd burner or a buy a big *** flash drive

if you're on a windows machine...
1. Right Click - on the folder of the pictures... you may have "all your pictures" saved to the "My Pictures"
2. then right click that folder and go to properties look next to SIZE it will say how many MB
3. so if you have 100mbs of pictures then you need a flash drive bigger than 100mbs. So a 128mb would do.

Select all your pictures (or the folder above, like 'my pictures')
then right click, and properties. it will tell you how large the combined size is. Look for a flash drive larger than that.

Put all your pics in one file, then right click your pic folder and click on Properties. That should tell you the size of the file.
You can plug in a thumbdrive, Copy and Paste the pic file to your thumbdrive, then later Copy it from your thumbdrive and paste it whereever you want on your new comp.

since every picture has a different file size you will need to add up how much hard drive space they are using and buy the flash drice accordingly.
