14x + 5(4-2x) = 20
u have to distribute the five
14x + 20 - 10x= 20
then combine like terms ( the 14x and the 10x)
4x + 20 = 20
then subtract the 20
then u have 4x = 0 this may not look right but it turns out in the end
x=0
14(0) + 5(4-2(0))
distribute again
0 + 20 -0
and u get 20!

14x+5(4-2x)=20
14x + {(5*4)-(5*2x)} =20
14x + 20 - 10x = 20
14x - 10x = 20 - 20
4x = 0
x = 0/4
x = 0.

Apparently my answer is incorrect. I tried it a few times and do not get zero. But you do have to distribute.
