We do not know what created the universe...and maybe we never will.

Call that "God" if you would like. God is just people's way of explaining the unknown.

p.s. I would consider myself an atheist.

p.p.s. THE BIBLE IS NOT A SOURCE FOR FACTS!!!

If you say a higher power created the Universe, you can always ask what created the higher power, so you really don't get anywhere with that line of logic.
One of the reasons we have such a hard time with this question is that everything in our daily experience happens by cause and effect so it is almost impossible to imagine how the Universe could have come into being without something to cause it. One way out of this dilemma is the possibility that the Universe arose from a condition in which time and space do not operate in the same way they do in our Universe. Try to imagine a circumstance in which there is no meaningful difference between time and space, thus no cause and effect in the sense that we normally experience cause and effect, and them by some random quantum like fluctuation, they become differentiated, the Big Bang happens, and the Universe is born.

A popular scientific theory is that the universe is akin to a gigantic rubber band that has been stretching and collapsing forever. The idea is that the Big Bang sends all matter in the universe outwards at incredible speeds. But due to the conservation laws, all of that must eventually return upon the path it has traveled (as a result of some force, speculated to be gravity), making everything add up to zero (and therefore obeying the conservation laws). All the matter and energy that has now been pulled back is being super-compressed into another Big Bang which will then explode outwards again (hence, rubber band effect).

Thats a good question. I'm a Christian and I do find myself thinking logically with religious beliefs, Like how can someone live to be 900 years old? Or how did God create the Heavens and The Earth? I think that back when they said that people lived to be 900 years old either the world was much pure (no pollution) and they were the most healthiest people or they measured their calendar wrong.. This question is deep and the best answer your going to get has to be from someone who has studied Astronomy & Space and Religion, but you got to think about this, Most scientists aren't religious because of they're theories of evolution and how the world was created (Big Bang Theory). The only thing I can tell you is not to think too much logic with religion, If you can't believe these things that doesn't mean your a atheist, I think mostly atheist disapprove of these events.. But if you find yourself getting to the point where you don't know where to turn, just read the Bible (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) and the Christian values are good enough to follow...

Well, what I'm going to tell you is a theory. (Although technically every scientifical point is a theory.) So, it's not necesarily true, but it is widely believed to be true.

Okay, well, at a very small level, the fabric of the universe is bubble, or "foamy" where there are chances of a new Universe forming out of nothing. See, if you add up all the force in the Universe, it adds to a number very close to 0. Scientists are trying to find a another force bringing it to zero. This would mean that the universe is actually just nothing in a different form. Of course, the probability of a universe to form is incredibly small. But, there is an un-imiganiabley small chance that as you read this a universe will form right in front of you, all of it's energy being equal to 0.

'Energy cannot be created or destroyed', but the uncertainty principle allows you to 'borrow' it for a while. So long as the total energy of the universe is very small, then it can be borrowed for a very long time.

So, in principle, there's no reason why a universe can't spontaneously appear, exist for billions of years and then vanish again. I'm not sure we have anywhere near enough evidence to say whether that's the case with the one we live in.

As others have pointed out, the 'higher power' doesn't solve the problem, it merely creates a new problem: where did the 'higher power' come from?

Your question assumes an intelligent creator ("how did the universe form itself") The big bang theory, which can be read about in full at the reference below, postulates that "the universe emerged from a tremendously dense and hot state about 13.7 billion years ago." How it did that, we do not know; we don't even know if the big bang is true, but it is not the theory of "atheists" as you suggest. There are many religious scientists who have belief in the big bang.

Science works by developing theories which then can be tested. The big Bang suggests that cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB) was left over after the big bang. In 1964, after this point was theorized the CMB was discovered which led to the general acceptance amongst physicists of the Big Bang as the best theory of the origin and evolution of the cosmos.

I am a Christian. A lot of people keep referring to the big bang theory which is absolutely not correct. Scientists want to believe that God doesn't exist so they make up these different reasons and so called solutions that are only based on what they believe, their opinion, NOT BY FACT! I don't want to get into a lot of detail because I could tell you so much about God and what he has done. How he created the earth, so on and so forth. The bible will prove everything. All I can say is that GOD is the Higher Power. He is the one who created the earth and created us. He knows everything about each and every one of us. That's all I'm going to say.

All The Best!

"The Creation of All"

There has to be "a higherpower", a "God" a thing that created the creatable. If you think about it, our definition of god is very bland. Therefore there was a being.

This sounds almost rediculous, but I think it is all a game. The universe was created by an "all powerfull" or, "different life being" like ourselfs and has tecnology so high tec, so extreme, that they themselfs have made us, the universe.(imagine the beings as large as the universe x 20) Also imagine us as... ants in an ant farm.

They made us to study, they made us as spesimins, experiments. Watching from what we all "the 10th-12th dimension". They have made us to see what happens and what we do, like we study animals, but different.

They made every aspect so detailed so extravagant, that we would be puzzled like a rat in a maze.
But rats can find theyre way out, they can think, remember.
so, comes of our present time period.

"Big Bang" and all other theorys of life are a mirror image of the truth. The "higherbeings" planned it this way to fool us. Though they had planned our knowledge and planted the seeds for us to find and trick.
------
This is my belief.

the theory behind the Big Bang gives ua an idea of how the universe wwas created. it started with a cosmic egg which exploded due to great pressure. which was such a huge force, enough to spread things light years away. gravity pulled some things together to create planets, moons, and etc. prove of this theory is shown with background radiation, quasars, and red & blue shift. though it's a thoery, there are unlimited answers to the possibilities. plus, don't people say that anything can happen!

Because..... the law of conservation of energy was only meant to be applied to things in the universe, not the universe itself!

Either that or you'll have to draw the line somewhere...
Suppose there is a God who created the Universe; then who, or what created him? Is God really absolute and infinite?
Who knows......?

What if God is the Universe?
