Awww... poor honey. Wish I could help you in real life! Just so you know, there are tons of different kinds of pads and tampons. If the pads you are using keep leaking, then they don't fit you right. If they are staining the sides, then you could try the ones with "wings". I like the Always Thin, because they are not bulky at all.

And no, unless you are wearing super tight spandex pants to school, then people can't see your pad. But seriously, it should be more comfortable than feeling like a 'diaper'. Try another kind!

Also, it is impossible to put a tampon in your urine hole (urethra). That is a tiny little opening. Your vagina is where the menstrual blood comes out, and that is where the tampon goes. I think you should take a bath or shower, and bring a hand-held mirror in there with you. Check out your anatomy and things will start to make a lot more sense.

It IS hard growing up. But the age you're at is really the hardest part, and once you get past all this yucky stuff, it gets much better.

P.S. Unless you have a mean mom, then don't worry about crying in front of her. She probably wants to give you your privacy if you want it, but do tell her if you need help. It will help you a lot and she will feel happy to be needed. It's emotional and confusing to moms when their little girls grow up, too!

Awww honey you're gonna be just fine! What you're going through is normal. Try not to get frightened or intimidated. It's really no sweat! I disagree with the other responses that you're too young to use tampons. THAT'S NOT TRUE. I HAVE USED TAMPONS SINCE I WAS YOUR AGE WITHOUT ANY DIFFICULTY. I used pads for the first year, but I found them to be uncomfortable, and became really interesting in other methods of controlling the flow. I still keep some onhand when the consistency is heavier and there's clotting. It's fine to use both! Try the mirror thing. Standing, prop one foot on the toilet, use your left hand to open your labia while holding a mirror up close with your right (make sure you have good lighting. Wash your hands and feel around with your finger first. Your vagina is between the hole where you pee from and the hole where you defecate from. Do not try and insert into your pee/poo holes! Find your pee hole, slide your finger slowly towards your rear, and towards the middle should be your vagina.) Take a peek and use a thin layer of vaseline or saliva on the end of the tampon (not the end with the string) and slide it in gently with an upward slant (I think of it as pointing to the back of your neck, lol). You should buy the slim-fit tampons designed for teens or regular tampons with plastic applicators. I believe both Tampax and Playtex have a version. These glide in more easily than cardboard. If you need help just ask Mom! I'm sure she'd be happy to help. When inserted far enough (don't worry, it CANNOT GET LOST in there) you shouldn't feel a thing! Then you won't be so self-conscious around others. This is a special time to be proud of. Go to the library and check out books on puberty! There should be a lot of wonderful information in the young adult section. I hope this helps! Good luck to you young miss!

Buy the thin pads with wings that are ultra absorbent. Plan on changing the pad often so you don't have to worry about leaks. I bought plain white panties to wear during my period so I can bleach them when I'm done. If you want to keep trying tampons you still should wear a thin pad. Use a mirror and find the vagina. It's more in the middle and there is no way you can get a tampon in the hole you pee from so relax and keep trying. Talk to your mom about how much you're bleeding and if she thinks you should talk to your doctor about it. Who knows they might have some help for you. The older you get the more tricks you will learn to handle your period. I know it's a pain now but you'll get the hang of it. We all do.Good Luck sweetie

It's impossible to put tampons where you urinate that area is too small, when my girls were getting their periods I use to make them practice with tampons by practicing on the weekends, you use two at a time, putting them in at the same time slowly inserting them and then gently pushing, also you have to tilt them towards your rectum sort of on an angle, after a couple of weeks they had it down pat, but they also wore a pantie shield just in case. I know it seems weird using two but believe me it works, just go slow, after a bit they even used the supers, remember babies come through there, your vagina stretches a lot so there's nothing to fear. You may waste a lot of tampons trying this but my girls are glad that they kept trying until they got it right, from then on they had no problem Keep trying you'll get it!!!!

Calm down!

First, you can't put a tampon "in the urine one" because it could never ever fit any part of the tampon.

Ask your mom for help, or another female to help you. Read the directions and take deep breaths and relax.

Change your pads more often and get a more absorbent pad.

The ONLY person who knows you are wearing a pad is YOU. Unless you tell people you are "on the rag" that is.

As for tampons, when you finally do get one in, change it every 4-6 hours depending on how quickly your tampon gets soaked.

I learned this the hard way.
Get a tampon, a jar of vaseline and a mirror. Go in the bathroom and lock the door.
Take off all your bottoms and squat on the floor. Put a glob or vaseline at the insertion end of the tampon. Put the mirror on the floor under you so you can see the vaginal opening [introitus].
Aim the tampon towards the small of your back [ kind of a 45 degree angle ] and gently push it in.
TAA DAA!
Soon you won't need props because you will be better at this.
I 'coached' many friends through the door of the bathroom.
also: BUY BLACK PANTIES FOR THAT TIME OF THE MONTH, AND WEAR A PANTY LINER.

I'm almost 12. And I got mine about half a year ago. I have had the same problem so I totally understand how you're feeling. I have cried I front of my mom tons of times before don't worry. I think tons if girls have had the same problem. I ok. Just stay away from pure white panties and forget that you have it and be a girl again. I wear pads cause i'm scared of tampons. talk to your mom somemore. don't be afraid to do it, like i said, moms understand,. I even asked if my mom and I could go shopping together by ourselves sometime. She said yes.

When you're at school make sure you wear something heavy. Like jeans or something. And make sure you carry extra pads or tampons everywere. no one can see them unless there's a leak, so make sure you check often. Just be yourself and forget about it!

Try using ultra-thin long pads with wings. Kotex is my favorite brand. Also, wear snug panties, one size smaller than usual, with a little more coverage (that's right, briefs!) when you're on your period. That will help keep the pad in the right place. Nobody will know when you're on your period unless you tell them. Don't be embarassed; we all go through this and understand.

Try wearing dark colors when you have your period. It is normal for a girl to feel uncomfortable when she gets her period - it takes time to adjust, so don't worry. You can buy the longer pads for overnight and even during the day if you wear a loose skirt so it wont be easy for anyone to see that you are wearing a pad. Also, try taking Pamprin or Midol, ask your mother about it - they will help you cramps, bad mood, etc.

you're way to young for tampons girl. stick with the pads. you'll get used to your period as the years go by. and you shouldn't be afraid to grow up. Im 13 and haven't had my period yet..... but i heard from my friends that pads are so much better than tampons.
