My boyfriend laced a little rainbow rayon tie-on bracelet on my left wrist before I woke up this morning. He tied it kind of tight and in a knot so I couldn't get it off with just one hand. So I wore it out... just grocery shopping, to the gym, out to lunch. I've been out for a long time, so it's not a big deal. Do straight people even know what it means? One lady at the gym even made a pass at me. And the waitress was flirty. I am sure I got more attention from women than usual today. But no gay comments of any kind at all.

Hmmm. I wonder why it's such a turn-on for my boyfriend to do cute little mean things to me. Oh, well.. different question. ;}

The rainbow doesn't symbolize the same thing for everyone. For homosexuals/bisexuals, yes, it symbolizes homo/bi pride. For Christians, it symbolizes "God's" promise that "He" will never again destroy "man" via flood. For some people it symbolizes happiness. For some of us who are in "mixed" race relationships, it symbolizes the coming together of different races. For some people, who choose not to identify with a particular race, it symbolizes all of humanity...the various races, cultures, ethnicities, and so forth, who they embrace.
Depending upon the group of people with whom you come in contact, the area you're in, the dominant culture in your area, etc..., you will get a different reaction to ''the rainbow''.

I am straight, and I have known for a long time that the rainbow has become a symbol for homosexuality. I do not feel, however, that the rainbow ONLY stands for homosexuality. Many people believe that the rainbow symbolizes God's promise to humankind that he would never again annihilate us no matter how twisted and evil some aspects of our society become. Just thought I would let you know that there is more than one way to interpret the beauty of the magnificent light show known as "The Rainbow". Cheers to you. By the way, sometimes a rainbow is just a rainbow.

A rainbow means more than just being gay. To Christians it's also a symbol of Gods promise to Noah.

I always assumed it was a symbol that represented pride and identified someone as being a member of the LGBT community.

Rainbows used to be something everyone could like and wear. Some people aren't aware things have changed.
