An easy at-home way to make a pinata is as follows:

Blow up a 12-15 inch balloon and sit in into a small butter bowl. (tied end inside the bowl).

Mix up some homemade glue using flour and water. You want a soupy mixture.

Rip or tie strips of newspaper into 1-2 inch strips.

Dip the paper into the glue mixture.

Gently use your fingers to remove excess glue by running the along the length of the paper. Apply the paper to the balloon, going in differing directions until the entire balloon is covered. You will want about 2-3 layers of paper.

Let the balloon dry overnight.

After making sure the pinata is completely dry. Pop the balloon with a pin and remove it from the inside of the pinata.

Decorate the pinata using tissue paper, glitter, paint, whatever you have handy. You can make it into a face, an egg, the possibilites are endless.

Then fill the pinata and cover the hole with tape or glue on some paper. We made a leprechaun and glued a paper hat over the hole.

Then have fun!
