x + 4(3x - 3) = 14
x + 12x - 12 = 14
13x = 26
x = 2

y = 3 * 2 -3
y = 6 -3
y = 3

What do you need to know. if it is intersection then convert the first equation to y = -(1/4)x + (7/2)
then set the two equal so 3x - 3 = -(1/4)x + (7/2)
x's on one side and numbers on the other: 3x + (1/4)x = (7/2) + 3
add like terms: (13/4)x = (13/2)
divide both by 13/4: x = 2
plug into both equations to get y and check:
y = 3(2) - 3
y = 3
(2) + 4y = 14
y = 3
Answer: (2,3)

x+4y=14 substitute 3x-3 for y
x+4(3x-3)=14 distribute 4
x+12x-12=14 add 12 to each side & combine like terms
13x=26 divide both sides by 13
x=2

y= 3x-3 substitute 2 for x
y=3*2-3=6-3=3
y=3

(2, 3)

check
2+4*3=14
2+12=14
14=14

Assuming you are solving for variables:

Since you know y=3x-3, you can substitue 3x-3 into the first equation.
x+4(3x-3)=14 This way you are working only with one variable.

Solve for x
Distribute:
x+12x-12=14
Combine like terms
13x=26
Divide
x=2

Then substitute x=2 into the second equation to solve for y
y=3(2)-3

x + 4(3x - 3) = 14
x + 12x -12 = 14
13x -12 = 14
13x = 26
x = 2
y = 3(2) -3
y = 3
(2,3) answer
