b^2 + 20b+ 36 = 0
What are the factors of 36?
1, 36
2, 18
3, 12
4, 9
6, 6

Since the equation has all +, the factor must be added, so only possible solution is 2 and 18

so b = -2 or b = -18

check answer

-2^2 + 20 (-2) + 36 = 0
4 + -40 + 36 = 0

-18^2 + 20 (-18) + 36 = 0
324 + -360 + 36 = 0

b = -2

b squared (b^2) = 4 (-2 * -2 = +4)

20 * b = -40 (20 * -2 = -40)

-40 + 4 = -36 + 36 = 0
