When I retired from the Police department it wasn't that way. We all got paid the same depending on service time. Far as I know, it's still that way.

Think this glass ceiling thing is over-generalized. I don't recall ever working anywhere there was a pay differential. Usually pay went by job description. Part -time police secretary didn't make as much as the Mayors secretary but the jobs were different as to hours. If there is a problem where you work, possibly a discrimination lawsuit is in order.

Your question is flawed and not balance . Many women do take unpaid leave time from their job it's not that their paid less than a man their unpaid absent absent is for a given reason. So Jimmy and Jane work the same job with equal pay. Jane decides to get go on unpaid leave. That Jimmy at the end of the year makes 30,000.00 and Jane makes 28,000.00 doesn't take in the variable of Jane on unpaid pregnancy leave. Should men share in taking care of the child during working hours with out a doubt. Are men allowed to take off 6 weeks after a pregnancy to be with their wife and new born the law allows no such protection. The employer can and will fire him and that man has no recourse. Unfortunately this isn't the 1950s it now takes two to make it in today's economy. Work and family values clash it's not the man nor woman's fault It's todays society who demands who works who stays home who must use a day care. For a young family life is a mess.

Whether you are a male or female and what ever the job pay scale is that is what one will make. Pay scale is based on education and expeience and that is how some people are paid.

Seems a bit too discriminatory to me. Women deserve the best of care. They can give birth!
