Yes. The tank is only used to maintain a constant pressure. Your lawn doesn't care if the water starts and stops. If you need pressure to get through a sprinkler system though you will need the tank.

You could but the problem is that the pump would run whenever you needed to move the water. This means that the pump would probably burn up since they are not made to run for long periods of time. Then other thing is you would have to turn the electric on and off when you want to stop and start the water flow. I would just use a tank. Less hassle and possibly cheaper in the long run. Pumps can be very expensive.

Yes you can use a well pump for irrigation..I've done it to empty a pool and clear a massive flood out of my basement. Just make sure it doesn't run dry or you will burn out the motor.

You will need a good foot valve to keep the pump primed. A screen to keep debris out of line is good also. The screen will keep the valve working well.

Go with the comment from plumber...he is correct it will burn up the pump with long term use or the pump will shut off due to the curcuit breakers getting too hot...then you will be asking how to fix this...
