It's only a bad word if you use it to insult a person (or if you're bringing it up just to be a jackass). It's all in the context.

I definitely agree it has lost its meaning. I'm sure that if you say that word to anyone, especially of a younger generation, 99% are immediately going to conjure a bad image. It pretty sad that due to "pop culture" we can't even use words like that unless you are in some sort of field that deals with dogs. If you are a vet maybe? But even then! Imagine how uncomfortable a vet might feel saying those words in reference to someones beloved female dog because he/she might hurt the owners feelings! It's all about negative connotation now unfortunately. I can't think of other words right now but im sure there are many. Well maybe one...I can't say or hear the word thong without imagining some poor excuse for underwear as thin as dental floss riding up someone's behind...which wouldnt be a bad thing ( to each their own) but some of the people who wear these don't provide such a pretty image....

It is true that a B-I-T-C-H is the correct terminology for a female dog. However, women often feel offended by this word because of the meaning. Most women don't want to be compared to a dog so when used toward a woman, it is seen as a derogatory statement.

For the same reason that these words are considered filthy:
1. a nickname for Richard
2. an equine beast of burden
3. a synonym for happy and carefree
4. the term for a female cat
5. a synonym for "to arrive"
Because people use them in a filthy way, or have assigned filthy meanings to them.

Because people arent using it to mean female dog. Its used to describe how someone is acting towards another person. Thats why its seen today as bad, and women who its mostly directed toward to appreciate that word used in such a derogatory way.

i guess there is worst names to be called but I can't think of any body who would enjoy being called this..
i have seen this on t-shirts but this is in jest...being a b word is not a complaiment unless you are running for President of the United States...lol...don't call people this vulgar name as in dogs its ok as that is what a female dog is..but for the humans it is nothing but an insult..
just like calling some people a dog...in their culture this would be a very bad insult...i was told this by one of my middle eastern friends...so beware of the B word..

i dont believe that its the actual word that's bad. its the context. our society says it in bad context. therefore the real meaning of the word changes among those who use it.. the sat bitc h on television here wen there's a pet show on and they're speaking about female dogs, so technically its not the word itself that's considered / shud be considered bad, its the way we apply it in our speech..

i think it has entirely lost it's meaning. other examples: a "jerk" used to mean an idiot, a stupid person, etc. and now is someone who's acting rudely. an *** no longer brings about images of a donkey, but instead a person's hind end. etc. etc. words lose meaning over time....that's just how language works.
