I've heard people say that if we get rid of all the guns, then we are only setting ourselves up for crime because if a criminal wants to get a gun and kill or rob then he will.

But how do you explain the success rates of countries like Australia and Japan, who have banned all guns and their crime rates have gone down?

The violent crime rate in Australia went UP, not down. Same with England, Scotland and Wales. If you want a safe country, look at Switzerland, where every adult make is required to have a military rifle and practice with it. Their violent crime rate is about non-existent, proving it is not guns that make crime, it is the lack of guns in the hands of the law abiding citizen. Armed citizens are not helpless victims.

Britians murder rate is at a 100 year HIGH..... after guns were banned. Reference below.

Australia crime rate up also. Reference below

At least now we have the option to defend ourselves, take that away and we are defenseless. I don't live in japan or Australia so I really don't care what works for them I live in the U.S.A. and banning guns here would be a huge mistake.Support and abide by gun laws and there is no problem. Law abiding citizens don't commit crime, criminals do,and they will get a gun if they want one no matter what the law says.

The success is Australia, oh that's easy, it's bullsh*t. Australia saw a huge jump in crime just after its ban on all firearms.

Japan, that's another easy one, they never had access to weapons, since feudal times only the rich and privileged had any sort of weapon.

You really need to do some research. Believe it or not, the news lies, don't be foolish enough to fall for it.

Besides, who follows the law? The law abiding, right? So who dose this law effect, the law abiding. The guns are here, they aren't going to magically disappear because of a law. The issue is criminals that have no fear of reprisal. Jail to them is a right of passage.

So, next contestant please.........

I believe it is true, if a criminal wants a gun, they're going to get one, and aren't going to be concerned if it is illegal to possess a gun.

According to what information I have been able to find, violent crime has not gone down in Australia, it's gone up. from 1997 to 1999 murders rose 6.5% and attempted murder was up 12.5%. Switzerland has one of the highest, per capita, gun ownership in the world, but is one of the most peaceful nations in the world also. Japan has strict gun laws, but is a virtual police state, that's how they maintain their crime rate.

History can teach you everything you need to know and answer just about any question for you. Shortly before Adolf Hitler came into power with the Nazi party, Germany took firearms away from it's citizens. They had no way to defend themselves. The forefathers of our country wanted us to be able to arm ourselves-not against "wild indians" or "red coats" but against our own govt. if it got out of hand. It is our Constitutional Duty to overthrow our govt. if it fails do to what it is suppose to, and by arming ourselves we can do so.

Futhermore, Australia and Japan have very strict laws, and unlike the US, you cannot hire a lawyer to get you out of trouble.

How do you explain the fact that areas in America with tough-strict gun laws such as Washington DC are very much crime ridden-with crime rates going up all the time?

BTW, im a firm believer in the old saying about MY COLD DEAD FINGERS.

If guns are banned, the only ones with the guns, will be the criminals.

The crime rates may go down, but you can't ban everything.

Knives, crossbows, etc...

People will always find a way to hurt other people.

Just my opinion!

It wont work here because unlike other countries people for the MOST PART obey their laws, much unlike here in the USA. Criminals have more rights and protection than the law abiding citizens, thanks to the far left socialists that have every excuse for protecting scumbag crooks and drug dealers.
Those other countries dont tolerate the stupidity of Liberalism that the USA does.

I have a quotation for you: "With total gun control, all our population will be happy and crime-free. The world will look at us and envy us!" What august personage said that? Adolph Hitler, 1938...I don't want to stick a moral on this one, but it's worth a bit of meditation...
