I am approaching getting engaged, and reading on here, talking to people, etc, it just seems like almost everyone either cheats or gets cheated on.

Is it really as common as it seems? Why does this happen so often??

It is common...but I believe it happens because when a couple gets married they let the spark out of their marriage...they quit doing "the little things" that count together and for each other and settle into a dull routine...in essence the romance is gone...sex becomes a job or duty and people seek that excitement elsewhere...
even sometimes people are very very unhappy and want to leave their significant other, but just cant get up the courage due to fear....
BUT CHEATING DOESNT ALWAYS HAPPEN! Marriage is hard work and requires dedication and commitment...you cant just say your commited you have to show it and prove it every day with your thoughts words and actions. If you show each other affection, do little kind things for each other, and get out and do something together sometimes you "shouldn't" have to worry. Needless to say it still does happen even in happy marriages for silly sometimes inane reasons.

Good Luck...and If you love this person, and want to get married to them, then go for it...if you let fear get in your way you wont know the true beauty and happiness that can come from your marriage.

It's very common . I heard some statistic recently that over 50 percent of both men and woman cheat. There's many reasons that it happens. People forget why they got married in the first place. Sometimes it is for more sex. Sometimes it's just the thrill and excitement of something new. Or to be desired again , with passion. So never say never. Hopefully you will never have this urge or have to deal with a cheating spouse. Good Luck in your upcoming marriage.

Congrat's on almost getting engaged. Unfortunitly it is really common. A lot of people do it because they like hiding things. Maybe it seems more fun fooling around with someone else. Personally I don't get it why not just leave the person. Don't go into your married thinking that it's going to happen to you babe! Chances are if he loves you he won't!

i believe it is quite common, i think it happens when one partner gets discouraged, and their reality doesn't match their expectations, so they choose to cheat and find someone new, rather than work on the problems. in every marriage their will be cloudy days, because in the real world life is not perfect. people make rash decisions, run from their problems, and think they have fallen out of love, just not true at all, but cheating is quite common, happens every day.

Cheating is common now a days, and its made easier today because of computers and the stuff that is on the internet, and how much people spend time on the internet instead of spending that time with their partners and their families.... and the values of what marriage is meant to be has gone to the wayside...

You ever hear of the grass is not always greener on the other side... why do you think that the saying is around. Unfortunately people think that it will be better with the other person, or even the fantasy of the unknown, excitement is key. Cheating is there only if you let it.

I read somewhere that 1 out of 2 men cheat on their wives. I'm not sure what the statistics are for women cheating ( I think I read it in a Glamour magazine or something).

People are human. If you are in a boring or demanding relationship and someone else comes along that finds you interesting then of course you are going to get a kick out of it. Unfortunately a lot of people (but definitely not everyone) take it farther than a little flirting. It is just human nature

Cheating happens. That doesn't make it right and it doesn't make it forgivable.

Each case is its own. Some people cheat because of something the spouse did, or didn't do. Some cheat because they are stupid. Some cheat because they have been and always will be cheaters.
