I've heard people say that if we get rid of all the guns, then we are only setting ourselves up for crime because if a criminal wants to get a gun and kill or rob then he will.

But how do you explain the success rates of countries like Australia and Japan, who have banned all guns and their crime rates have gone down?

Banning firearms is a real dumb idea. As soon as a law-abiding citizen can't have a weapon to protect themselves, then all the criminals will have all the weapons.

Maybe the guns aren't what we should worry about. How about the bullets. I don't think you should be able to buy ammo at Walmart.

Depends on whose issuing the"facts" of the success rates. If their truly were no firearms in a given country, then I would expect no deaths by firearms. That is an astounding thing. How about murders altogether. Are there down, up or the same. If crime is constant, than eliminating firearms did nothing to stop crime. It simply changed the tool used.

Handguns can and are used to hunt deer, moose, bear, squirrels etc. I guess that takes that argument away that they are only used to kill humans.

And crime has gone up in Great Britain.

Societal differences. Japan's culture is traditionally a top down culture, where as the US is focused more on individualism.

Banning firearms is a great idea. I'm all for it.
It seems to me that only a few people realize that these machines were created for one thing and one thing only.
TO KILL!.!.!
Sidearms are made to kill human beings.
Really do you think your friendly neighbourhood redneck would buy one to go hunting moose? Deer? Bear? Squirrels? Or maybe raccoons? Those sidearms are designed to kill people. I don't accept any excuses about that.
