I have a very old work bench. It was in a basement for mable 30 yrs. The wood vises are stuck. After I get them taken apart I need to kow what is the best lub so they slide nice and easy.

Yup, wax or bar soap. Either one will work. This will also lubricate a sticking zipper.

Plain old wax. Candle wax is easy. Just rub a broken peice of candle and things will slide as smooth as ever.

My best answer for that would be either solder paste pronounced (sodder) it's used for greasing copper pipe in plumbing. My second suggestion is vaseline the petroleum kind that comes in a jar it's waterproof and never looses it's lubrication.. Try either one and let me know if it helps..

Boiled Linseed oil, either alone, or, WD-40 contains linseed oil. Nothing water based- it will swell the wood and make it stick worse.
