but are against using the government to feed the hungry, heal the sick, and house the homeless (all things Jesus spoke many times about)?
However, on social issues Jesus said nothing about (like gay marriage and abortion), they absolutely want the government to tell people how to live their lives.

You cons don't seem to get it. Look at you. You say Jesus did not use the government, but then you turn around and support using the government to ban gay marriage, abortion, and the right to die.
Make up your minds!

Jesus didn't use the government
Christians have founded tens-of-thousands of charities worldwide. Giving should come from the heart, not government coercion.

Yes I am against the Government getting involved with feeding the hungry healing the sick and housing the homeless. These things should be done on a local level. The government was not formed to be our daddy or our nurse. For example look at how well government has handled Education, in no time in history have we thrown more money into Education and had worse results. I have friends who are teachers and they tell me they have to sometimes buy things their class needs because the money just never seems to get to where it was meant to go to.... the kids! We can manage the money better when it doesn't have to go through such a big bloated bureaucracy. And again I don't want government involved in anyones personal life gay or otherwise. We have allowed government to grow way out of porportion and it just sucks at trying to micro manage peoples lives and the way we live. I'd like to see it cut in half give us a bigger tax break at all levels and let us handle our own communities concerns. But I fear things have gotten to far out of hand and these changes are just wishful thinking. I don't judge anyone for their life style as long as they obey mans laws. I just don't have the time nor the interest. It's not my job. Jesus is in my life and I am happy for that. But it's a personal thng of the heart. I don't preach nor demand everyone be like me or belive what I do. I just wish everyone peace and a fullfilling life and if you are ever courious about jesus and his teachings ask him to show you who he is.

Girl, you asked a political and spiritual question rolled into one this morning. You're obviously looking for abuse. I have this paddle here, one side has a pic of a cross wrapped in a crown of thorns and the other has a republican elephant on it. Wanna see how it works? Anyway, some conservatives are good christians and some christians actually understand and adhere to what a republican is really supposed to be. I am neither and I usually have contempt for both ideas. The real problem with the government isn't political affiliation at all in my opinion; it's greed. These monsters will hide behind Christianity and whatever political label gets them into office but what they really believe in, what they really worship and to wish further is their own power. This is done through lies and manipulation, stealing and killing. They will use sports or military slogans like 'take no prisoners' when addressing issues like health care reform. I've heard references to the battle of Waterloo a few times as well. There is really nothing religious or authentically political about these greed mongers. They lust for power and dominance in life, probably because they're afraid to play with it in the bedroom. It all boils down to sex, sweetie, which is the the final piece of the holy trinity of things not to be brought up at social gatherings or a formal dinner. I am happy to help complete the tri angle

Many conservatives are Christian and follow the teaching of Jesus. It is twisting logic all out of proportion to say that opposing government waste is anti-Christian. Defining marriage as between a man and a woman is not telling anybody how to live. It is maintaining an age old standard. Killing a baby and defining it simply as choice is just perverse.

I was schooled at Jesus camp and I was taught that as a Conservative christian I am a Jesus follower.....I think a hungry person should eat, a sick person has every right to seek medical attention....and there were no gays and no one thought of abortions so Jesus did not say anything about those issues...I think Papa Bear agrees with me so it is true...

If you knew what Christianity was, then maybe you'd have a point. Christian conservatives generously give more to feed the hungry, heal the sick and house the homeless than any liberals do.

Read what god said about men who lie with men, and women with women, and taking innocent life in the old testiment! He also spoke about the functions of the church as opposed to the functions of the government. The welfare functions, feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, and healing the sick, are functions of the church. Administrating the welfare of the nation is the governments. Because we are bad stewards of the blessings he has bestowed upon us, we have royally screwed up both the church, and the government. That's why, one day we'll wake up to find him here to straighten it out! We ain't smart enough!!!!

Jesus also kept government separate from faith in him. Jesus said it is an individual responsibility to take care of the weaker among us. Individuals and the church, he instructed his disciples to meet the needs of the people before trying to deliver his message to them. He never mentioned anything about the government giving out handouts.
The bible is very clear on homosexuality, calls it an abomination. Abortion is spoken about if you consider it murder as the pro life group does.
IMO, their stance isn't hypocritical at all.

In Jesus' time the area where he lived was ruled by Rome. No one, not even a Jewish carpenter would have dared hint at how to run the government. Even King Herrod had to be careful or he would lose his throne if he didn't do things the way the Roman Emperor wanted.

Gay marriage is covered in the old testament.
Abortion is killing babies. period.
It is up to individuals, who do many things to feed the hungry, heal the sick, and house the homeless. It should not be a government thing. It is one thing to me to willingly invite people into my home, it is quite another to force me to pay half my income for some program that may or may not work.
