Of course .. they are sticking a darn needle through your flesh!

BUT, that being said, I have had a lot of piercings and the nose is the least painless. The thing is, you go into a bit of a relaxed zone and the pain is fast and sharp.. you break into a bit of a sweat, your adrenaline pumps, and you find yourself almost high for a few hours after it is done. I love piercings to be honest.

My older daughter had her nose done when she was 14. I cannot tell you how many trips home from soccer and basketball practice we had with her repiercing her nose in the back seat as we drove home! Six times a week I would estimate. One of my funkier mothering memories!

The tongue is an ouchie but soooo worth it. The big key is do it when you know you won't have to talk too much for a few days. Have lots of ice and cold drinks on hand. Tylenol or aspirin too, just in case, although we never ever needed that.

Make sure you go to a well recommended highly qualified piercer. Make sure he uses the BEST fittings there are. If not, little bits of yuck can get caught in cracks and end up causing infections. He should also know how to gauge for swelling and use the right size fitting so there is room for the tongue to swell a bit without the fitting becoming too tight.

Short term pain, long term gain. My younger daughter is a major fashionista and she even changes the ball on her tongue piercing to match her outfits!

Nice thing about piercing is that it is not permanent like tats.

By the way, about dental damage. A truly GOOD piercer will not do it if he thinks you will do so because of the build of your mouth. Small tongue, difficult phrenum, etc. One thing is to use plastic or rubber endings instead of metal once it is healed. The most dental damage comes from lip piercings.

When one of my girls wanted a piercing just below her lip, in the middle, our piercer devised this creation for her. It was the ball on a long fine silver strip that he bent to fit down in the gums. She would NEVER do anything to compromise her smile and it worked perfectly.

Good luck sweetie. BTW, the ouchiest piercings are on any part of your body to which is covered by a teeny bikini.

I've never had my nose pierced, but I had my tongue pierced twice. Both times it didn't hurt to have it done. But the 1st time I woke up in the middle of the night because the pain was really bad. My tongue was swollen, I sucked on some ice, crushed up some Tylenol & put in in water, drank it and went back to sleep. To keep my tongue from swelling throughout the day I sucked on ice constantly. And when it started to hurt, gargling with listerine helped a lot. It kind of numbed it for a while. I had my tongue pierced for a total of five years. Don't play with it between your teeth. You'll wear your teeth away like that. I never did that and my dentist was amazed that I didn't damage my teeth while having a tongue pierceing in for so long.

Go for it. But make sure you go to a place that uses sterile implements and never go to someone on a side st., like I see a lot of kids doing here in NYC on St. Mark's St. If you are in NY go to Cassiopia on 8th St. They are really clean, quick and painless. And you won't have to worry that you caught disease or something. They use the same sterilization methods as hospitals do.

I am guessing yes. :) haven't gone through it personally, but I looked on Wikipedia and it had a lot of great info about piercings, healing, caring for, etc.
