The cartoon Avatars do show some imagination in their creation and a picture of yourself always includes the question, "Which one?"
Personally I like things I download and put the up as my ever changing mood dictates.

Real pix. I don't think they're trying to hide anything. Like me I use my avatar cuz someone took my real pix & opened a new account w/ it. Young & Hot

mines an avatar but only b/c I haven't figured out how to use a picture instead. I wish more people would put up pix of themselves. I'd like to see what everyone looks like!

I wonder how do those who share the same avatar with me look like! It's interesting to think that there are so many people who look alike. Avatars are more fun

I have used both, but I am going with the avatars..........
You tend to get more crazy emails when you use a real picture!

Whatever floats your boat. It should represent something about you or your interests. Doesn't matter if it's a real pic or an avatar as long as it is original.

Avatars rock, you have more clothes to change into than you actual have in your closet, you own the coolest things like my pet dragon and go the hottest places, i am in hell.AVATRS WOOW!!!!!! LOL

I like real photos.
For a while Yahoo kidnapped my dog and I had to use an avatar.
I didn't feel like myself for a few days.
