Hi
If it only hurts at the entrance to your vagina, then you are probably inserting the tampon at the wrong angle or are using the wrong size. Look for the smallest size you can find in the shop, and use those. I find it easiest to stand up and put one foot on the toilet lid in order to insert it comfortably. Try different angles to see which is best, as everyone is a little different. Don't worry if it hurts a little when it first goes in, some of them can be a little rough, and this is normal if you are a virgin then the hymen means you may experience a little pain. I had this same problem, but after seenig a doctor, he told me that the first inch of the vagina is the only place that has any pain receptors at all. Try to insert the tampon by gently pushing it in as far as it will go and then using the applicator to insert it properly. And remember, you don't have to use a tampon at all. I never do, as i find them uncomfortable even when inserted properly. (i am a rare case though, i have a problem in that area, you are most likely 100% normal and have nothing to worry about) It's all about personal preference. If you like, it's best to talk to your Mum/Aunt/Sister/Close friend if you feel comfortable. You may find that they had the same problem and have an easy solution. I asked my Mum, and she helped me a lot. If you have any symptoms that indicate an infection, then this could contribute to the pain, so you should see a doctor.

If you feel pain you probably do not have it insert in all the way..
My only other thought would be you may have an infection. Stop wearing them until you see a GYN
Or try placing a few drops of KY-jelly before insertion. It may help the tampon to slide in more smoothly..

Well it probably hurts because your getting it in far enough or possibly to far. When you stand upp and sit down you shouldn't feel it. If you do your not putting it in right. Read the box and instructions it give you ideas for different ways to put them in. Also you could be using the wrong absorbency. If you have light to medium flow normally you should be using tampons for that type of absorbency. Don't use super or plus if you don't have a heavy flow.

Tampons are not supposed to hurt. If it hurts you are probably putting it in wrong. It could also be the brand, maybe try a smaller size.
