If I was doing it I use an Excel Spreadsheet because you can sort you list by author, title, genre, date, whatever. Or you could make a list on a word processor like Word or a simple text file. You could do it by hand with stack of 3x5 cards. You could do it on a regular writing paper.

There are many ways you can catalog your books. You can do it alphabetically by the authors name; last name first; you can do it by alphabetically by title; you can subdivide by genre and then do it alphabetically by author or title, ot you can do the whole Dewey thing and go from there!!

There is a rather cool site, www.librarything.com, that lets you catalogue your books. You can put 200 books on it for free, and then they have paid accounts.
