As in, any type of stereotypes [Racial, Labels, etc.]
Do you find yourself getting stereotyped a lot?
I hate being judged; so I don't judge people.
I've been made fun of for being "a preppy Asian" when in fact, I'm NOT preppy. I seem to dress preppy, with Polos and Hollister and stuff but people also seem to think that if you're preppy you're say "LIKE" 100 times in a sentence and wanna be white. [Well, in my area.] So if you're a "Preppy Asian", your trying to be white and also be stupid, although ALL Asian are smart, and have slanty eyes right? NO. I also happen to be Filipino, which is like Pacific Islander AND Asian, so people say I shouldn't be driving because I'm Asian and I'm gonna cause accidents. And that my eyes are "closed" when actually, they're open. I don't get bothered but sometimes they get annoying.
So any incident where you have been stereotyped?
And what?
P.S. I think Stereotyping should seriously go away.
Because everyone's unique [:

Only time I get upset by stereotypes is when someone labels me as a stereotype. That makes me mad. (Not on yahoo answers but in real life)

Some people are just so concerned with being politically correct that they are easily offended. A lot of people perpetuate those stereotypes, however. Say if I told a joke thats offensive to someone else they could perceive me to be a racist, but I know that I'm not because I have so many mixed race people in my family and the man I love is a different race than me. Its the same with anyone else. Besides that, some people can't take any joke.. look at how many people get offended over a dumb blonde joke, my own natural haircolor and I don't get upset in the least when I hear one, some of them are actually pretty funny.

Stereotyping is a form of conditioned response. Much like Pavlov's dog, we associate things with our senses. Sight is one of our senses.
As babies, the brain hasn't recognized the world as adults, so they are still being conditioned.
If you were able to shut this brain mechanism off, then you would not survive, because this same mechanism tells you to not walk through a fire because you've felt pain from a burn before. Due to conditioned response, you would know to run if a dog is gnarling and about to attack. You've been conditioned to make an assumption based on what you see(fire, gnarling dog).
Is stereotyping, a response to conditioning, really evil? Some may say that hearing the hate spoken can condition hate. I agree, but all of the situations you described has nothing to do with hate.
BTW, I've been stereotyped before, and I think everyone on Earth has. It's seen in short people not making as much money, to women, to races, to everything that exists in this world.

I am Latina, and I hate the people who stereotype other cultures. Some people tend to judge other cultures based in rumors. I know some people who had judge me. But when I ask them about the geographical localization of my country they don't know where is. How do they can stereotype someone without knowledge? It is a sign of ignorance. I think all the human beings must show respect for the differences.

My son has "slanty" eyes, and he is part Native American.
He has been called by some "Chinese". He has blue eyes and fair skin, so the people who assume that he is Chinese are just basing that assumption on the shape of his facial features.
I don't like stereotyping either, but I guess it will be with us from now on.

I got stereotyped a LOT in school. Because I had a big "chest" guys thought I was "easy" and girls thought I was a "whore!" Good grief!! Its not like I couldve CHANGED my breast size (btw I was a D before I even hit high school!) They also thought I must be dumb since I had "big boobs" which was COMPLETELY ridiculous (I graduated w/ a 3.5 GPA!)
Basically what I did was IGNORE all of them. The guys who thought I was easy were simply NOT WORTH MY TIME... after all I wasnt about to date a guy who just wanted to "get in my pants (or up my shirt LOL). And the girls who thought I was a "whore" just had never taken the time to get to know me (and were more then likely jealous!)
I had a LOT of GOOD friends who didnt think poorly of me, treat me differantly or speak meanly of me! Thats all I needed! The rest of them could just go to hell as far as I was concerned!!
Unfortunatly stereotypes are ALWAYS going to be a factor of life and its up to YOU (and you alone) to just NOT let it get under your skin. Fill your life up w/ people who respect and like you for YOU and like I said, "to hell" w/ everyone else!!
A good way to ignore them is simply to learn to laugh at yourself!! It actually IS funny when you think about it... after all NO ONE can know who you really are in your heart and soul just by looking at you!! And EVERYONE is stereotyped in SOME way... not just you!!
One of my favorite comedians is "Carlos Mancia" b/c he simply stereotypes EVERYONE!! He doesnt leave ANYONE out (blacks, whites, jews, asians, mexican, italians, etc etc etc) and its FUNNY!! Its when people simply pick on ONE type of person that it becomes "discrimination!" So, just learn to laugh!!
One other thing to keep in mind is the people who pick on you for who they "think" you are, are simply INSECURE about themselves and need to "bully" others to build themselves up!! So feel SORRY for them, b/c they are obviously not fulfilled w/ their own lives!!
Take care and keep your chin up and LAUGH!! It makes life a WHOLE lot easier to get through!!

yeah, when people feel they have to place others into categories based on their apperance, it shows a lack of character on THEIR part.
