A steal? No. Joe Thomas was projected to go anywhere from 2-5 overall pick. Brady Quinn went late but they also gave up a lot to get him.I think they made two great picks but neither was a steal. A steal is basically when a player "falls into your lap" For example say you have the 25th pick and for some reason a top 5 ranked player falls down that is a steal (if the Browns didnt trade for Quinn Kansas City would have taken him that would have been a steal for them because that was the pick they had and Quinn would have dropped all the way down). Since the Browns had to trade to get Quinn and they gave up a steep price they didnt get a steal they got their values worth.

I agree Jesse. They gave up possibly a top ten pick next year if they plumet like it is most likely they will. I think they will be at least competitive next year, but not because they have some diamond in the rough that got passed over and is an extreme talent.
Their first three draft picks went exactly where they were projected except for the slip of Quinn so the "steal" label should not fit any of those first three picks.
And after the first three, who are the other players that they have gotten in draft that makes them have the most heralded rookie class? According to espn, they are second to none, and I just can't see it. So a steal? Yet to be seen. Their money's worth? More accurate.

The Browns, Panthers, Falcons, and 49ers all got some big steals in the draft.
Browns got two top 5 projected picks on their team....that's a "what the hell were those other teams thinking" moments for them...great job Browns.
Panthers got Jon Beason...good good...Dwayne Jarrett....nice....Charles Johnson...great for the 3rd round....and probably the most important ...Ryan Kalil...all of these guys were supposed to be higher picks than when they took them.
Falcons got Blaylock...a huge need...Jamaal Anderson...their line fell apart and/or left this last year and offseason...then Chris Houston..great pick in the middle of the 2nd round.
And the 49ers...Willis...awesome grab...Joe Staley, maybe Alex Smith can get more time to move around and find his new receivers...one of which being Jason Hill, rookie in the 3rd round...another great pick for that round
I'd say that because the Browns got Quinn and Thomas...they win..they did get a great Safety if he shapes up into a better personality..great job...They might actually have seasons about .500 soon...

A steal? Where? Joe Thomas was a good pick for them, he'll be a quality OL for years to come. Quinn? I'd hardly call that a steal. Quinn is a project and the jury is out on whether he'll ever be much more than a backup NFL QB.

ok, how does getting brady quinn with the 22nd pick not a steal? he was projected to go #3 but they took joe thomas first. i mean come on the dolphins should have taken him but didnt, and some other team like the vikings alo should have taken him because they are going no where with tavaris jackson. getting quinn was a huge steal for the browns, and probably the biggest steal in the draft.

Yes I think they got a steal in getting both those players in the first round and barring serious injuries they should be there for at least a decade I think Dallas made a mistake here but time will tell if that is true or not.
