Facts About Tennis:
4 Grand Slams Every Year (Austrailian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, U.S. Open)
Men's Tour is called the ATP Tour.
Women's Tour is called WTA Tour.
The Men's and Women's Tour are separate and do not tend to compete in the same tournament except in the grand slams and several Tier One events.
Tennis tournaments are split into tiers, the higher of which have higher prize money and more points toward your ranking, the highest being at the Grand Slam tournaments followed by the Tier 1 tournaments.
Grand Slam Events & Tier 1 events are the ones that you see most often on TV and are familiar with several of them being very popular including the Nasdaq 100 Open (Now the Sony Ericsson Open) in Miami, the Pacific Life Tournament in Indian Wells, CA, Dubai Championships, and the Men's Master Series Tournaments.
Both the Men's and Women's Tour have a Year End Championship in the fall where the top 8 players compete.
Tennis also has a World Championship of sorts every year. There are several rounds played throughout the year in the host country's chosen selection of venue and surface.
On the Men's Tour it is called Davis Cup and on the Women's Tour it is called Fed Cup. Countries compete against each other at each round. Teams are made up of 4 players and there is a 5 match format where 4 matches are singles' games and 1 match is a doubles match. This is the only real team atmosphere you will see in tennis outside of doubles tennis.

Lot of questions there, you can goggle most of it, the best players now are Novak and Nadal, Wawrinka is coming on now too, become a student of the game and read as much as you can on the sport, it's thee sport for a lifetime.
Get you family playing too, great way to spend time together.
