Some people are incapable of being monogamous. Some people do it for revenge, some do it because they're in a miserable relationship and lonely, some do it because it's there, some do it because they don't have any morals, some do it because they don't really care about the other person.
There's almost as many "reasons" as there are people who do it.

It's so easy for someone to sit back and question why a person can have an affair. Sometimes it just happens. Marriage can become boring and monotonous. Some people also have different sex drives than there spouses, or go through life changing events, like hysterectomies. Most woman don't have the same desires after this surgery. Some can't even orgasm anymore. Affairs can be exciting and refreshing. Though if revealed , can be quite devestating to a marriage. Most people , I think have a kind of fairytale outlook on marriage . Until they get divorced and the harsh reality sets in. Society makes you feel as you get into certain ages that you have to get married and have a family. And you really never know someone until your married . Anyways don't judge someone until you've walked in their shoes.

I havent ever had an affair. I think people have affairs b/c either they dont care whats at stake or there is something missing in the marriage so they seek what their not getting from their spouse. I dont believe its right the way I see it if a couple is unhappy then they need to try to fix it or move on. When you first get married you marry knowing that is the 1 person that you will be giving your heart and soul to. You married happy but years down the road some couple just dont feel like they did when they got married for whatever reason they stray and they do it b/c it feels a void but they get so caught up in it they forget their obligations to their spouse and family and its all about them. I hoped I helped.

There are a number of reasons for this, I'm sure they've been hashed over by many educators to no avail. Sometimes the people themselves would have never thought it possible they would have cheated on their spouse.
It's been called "stupidity" or a stupid decision at the time. It takes an understanding mate to hold a marriage together through the turmoil. It takes a very good relationship to hold together through the ages.
Other then the reasons given "stupidity" I see no other reasons other then one that has fallen out of love with their mate and are looking for another relationship but, this is a poor way to go about it.
Being out in the open and honest wouldn't hurt as much, at least it would damper the impact.

I don't think people marry with the intention to cheat. People cheat because certain expectations and needs are not being met. I think people get lazy and give up on trying to be a good wife or husband. They get into routines and forget to make time for each other. They become roommates and lose the intimacy. They take their marriage for granted and stop working on it. A marriage needs constant care and work.

Neglect, lack of communicatio, no sex, fighting. There are so many reasons people stray. It doesn't make it right though.
