Yesterday I was involved in an accident in which I was rearended, now my car is totalled and this man's insurance is going to have to pay for me to get a new car, I was just wondering what the value is on my car. It's a 1999 V6 Mercury Cougar.

A lot of this depends on where you live, the condition of the car before the wreck, how many miles, what options (automatic, power locks, etc.) you had. In my area, a "Clean" condition car with no options and 80000 miles (assuming you put on 10K miles per year) could be sold for between $3500 and $5000 depending on whether you trade it in, sell it to a private party, or sell it to a dealer.

My neighbor had a Cougar and he really liked it. I owned its "twin", a Ford Thunderbird and had good success with it. They are solid cars and drive well. Enjoy...

With all available options and average miles (96,000 for your year), the retail price is $4500. That is with it being in otherwise good condition (aside from the wreck).
