By appreciating the ones you gave up that opportunity for, I'm sure they are glad that you love them.

We have all done something that, in hindsight, appears to be a career mistake.
My theory on this is that when you made the decision there was something that pushed you in one way. Perhaps it was that nagging feeling that the "more hours" would turn into a lot more hours and you would be giving up part of your life. Perhaps it was a premonition that something just didn't sound right.
Whatever made you turn down the job, it probably was the right thing. I say that because I firmly believe that things happen for a reason. Maybe the reason was that the next time you get a pretty good offer, you will remember the second guessing you have done on this decision and take more time to make the next decision. All we can do is learn from our experiences.
I would love to go back an correct some of my bad career decisions, but until someone invents that time machine I intend to learn from each decision, even if all I learn is to never do that again. Good luck.

when your kids are 18 and moving out of the house, do you think you will still have any of that 25-30% money left? probably not. Can you get by without it now? obviously so or you would have taken the job.
so, be glad you are spending more time with the kids. After they move out you can seek a higher paying job with more hours. They grow soooooooo fast! You cant EVER get THAT SUCH opportunity again.
Congrats for being so standup and doing the right thing.
It is a shame more people aren't like you.

Life goes on. Are you making enough now to pay your bills and take care of your kids? If so thats all that is important. Your family should be your main job. If you already have a good job then dont let it get to you. As crazy as it sounds more money isnt always the best. There is an old saying about the grass being greener on the other side-well sometimes you cross the fence and find out that the grass isnt all that.
As long as you are doing ok at your present job dont let it get you down. Enjoy your job you have now and your kids.

Every extra moment you spend with your spouse and kids makes your decision the right one. Your kids will have wonderful memories of when they were small, and you being home at night to tuck them in, etc..... and that is priceless. Sure the money would have been great, but there's time for that later on- your kid's have only one childhood. Regret can be like a vampire and suck your energy, so don't let that happen- enjoy your family and the regret will fade in time. Other opportunities will come up.

Look at your kids the next time they do something funny, make you smile, or just make you happy and realize that these small moments may have been missed if you had to be at work. Sometimes what we consider missed opportunities are really blessings in disguise. You already have a good job. You may get a better one that allows you more family time. Relax.

I don't think it's possible for you or your family to put a price on the time that you'd be missing with them. Your kids need you now.
If you took the promotion, it would be eating you inside if you missed something important with them (a soccer game, Johnny using the potty all by himself, Mary's dance recital, etc.)

Continue to search for other opportunities that will fit your situation. By being pro-active in this matter you'll feel like you are taking action and not just sitting back and letting it eat you up inside.

Oh, wow! That does sound terrible, but you made your choice for a reason. Remind yourself what those reasons were. You only get one chance to raise your kids, and since you have a good job already, I think you made the right choice. Good Luck!

If you can't make decisions and move on, then probably the job you turned down wasn't the right one for you.
