You shouldprobably pick something hypoallergenic; you never know what she might be allergic to. I use Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana. It's a lovely, light, floral-fruity scent. The secret ingredient is green apple, and it doesn't make me sneeze.:)

Go to sephora or Macy's and start smelling. If you don't have those stores in your town, your local drug store shoulf have a selection of name brand stuff...I think Burberry is a good scent for older women. It doesn't smell like old lady perfume. Anything from Ralph Lauren is nice. Clear Water is wonderful. Clinique Happy is what I wear...my mom also wears it.

White Diamonds is a nice scent. It is not heavy at all but rather a refreshing light perfume. It has been out several years. Don't know what you call an "old lady smell" but I have had complements from young girls who seem to like it.

Since you aren't sure what she'd like, maybe a gift card to Estee Lauder or something. If she doesn't use it for perfume maybe she can get some make up or moisturizer.
People (me) can be picky about what kind of scents they wear.

There are too many to choose from and it all depends on what entices and which disgusts. Personally a really soft scent is Hypnotise by Lancome. I don't know who could resist that one.

If you don't know what she likes, then I would suggest getting her something elsmaybe a gift card for her favorite store or a plant-something like that. You don't ever want to offend your mother-in-law!
