I live in Pennsylvania. We were promised lower property taxes if gambling was allowed. Of course, this never happened. None of the promises ever happen. Every darned election is based on the same promises: more jobs, lower taxes and better services. Nothing ever changes.
When are politicians going to be held accountable ?

Idaho, never think that your vote doesn't count. Every vote counts.

Russ, I actually was talking about elections below the national level. The rampant corruption, nepotism and greed of the local, county and state officials is beyond sickening. And you just have to look at our fearless leader Rendell to know the caliber of people that a system like that produces.

They are supposed to held accountable by the voters. I think that the only way to fix it is to take more power from the government. The less power that government has the less they can mess up.

Since you're from PA, you're at ground zero of the second American Revolution. You know that we tossed out 25% of the state legislature in 2006. That was only the beginning; 2008 is right around the corner. Search the Yahoo! Groups for pacleansweep or subscribe at the website below to keep tabs on how we're keeping the pressure on. Be patient, though - Rome wasn't burned in a day! After we finish in PA, we go national. Watch out Congresscritters!

But beyond that, your question infers that you may only be paying attention to national races. In PA, there are important elections every six months. In fact, there's an important primary on May 15. The governments closest to you (school board, twp supervisor, etc.) are the ones that affect your life the most. And hey, those are the 'farm teams' for the state & national races - better to weed them out before they get called up to the 'big leagues'!

The only way to get rid of politicians is to elect normal people, the only way that will happen is to push some smart people to run for office. I know a couple of dozen people that would be great in office, but the problem is getting them on the ballot & getting their message out. Of course the 2 parties & the press will not allow it. As far as accountability, if we elect politicians there will be none. Their politicians.

I have been sick of it since the press seem to have named the candidates we will vote for (or against). I had hoped to have a choice this time but no such luck. It is all over and done with by the time the smaller Western states get to vote. I really hate it that the Easterners get to make the choice.

But my vote doesn't count in this state anyway. I live in Idaho.

It seems every politician runs on the same, safe platforms, they're for law an order ( who isn't) they're for less or lower taxes, ( are any for HIGHER taxes?)
"And if I am elected I will ( what was I suppose to say to this group??)work harder for the farmer. (Ooops, I'm in Philadelphia, not many farmers here?)
But please do remembe the famous midnight pay raise? The PA voters did a Donald Trump. (You're fired!)

Yes that is why we should change the presidential term to 8 years, although I would be afraid that they would change things to start campaigning in 4.

we have a troubled system.

Why should they be accountable? There job appears to be more trashing the other party then helpping people. They can always blame someone else. I am sick of it too. I am in florida.

They will say anything to get into office. Remember Bill Clinton said we would have health care. Never happened.
