I bought my beardy at petsmart, and hes bright orange (red face). I emailed Sandfire Dragons, and they told me it was a pretty rare colour, especally to buy from a petstore.
Where did you guys get yours? Is it the regular grey/brown colour?

Sure is a beautiful bearded dragon. Haven't seen any or sold any Sand fires in a few years. The last time we had about 3 and the backs of them were already dark reddish, variation from than the normal version at a younger age but haven't seen any with the orange head. The store you work at got the bearded dragons as hatching's. That's how the got by.

It is really rare to get one of any color other then the gray/brown from any pet store. They are usually held back by the breeders till they can judge if they want to keep them or not.

If it was "normal" color when it arrived that might explain it. I had an entire clutch that stayed that way till they were about 2 1/2 months, then with their 2nd or 3rd shed they started turning a lemon yellow in color.

Id say count your blessings and enjoy your good fortune. When they are sold with that kind of color they can cost outrageous amounts of money, depending on how brilliant the color is.

Also keep in mind its likely that the colors will intensify with future sheddings and the healthier you keep him the better.

breeding color into beardies is not difficult with the right stock. getting one of that beauty is rare from a nationwide pet store. they usually run from $125 up to $1000 see the website below and compare your colors to the ones there and you can get an idea on the bargain you got. orange is a sought after color. and to refute the answer above. I have purchased herps from nationwide stores and private breeders I have had problems with both. but the nationwide pet store didn't screw me around for 7 weeks while trying to trade me for an inferior herp. they gave me my money back and offered to order me another at the same cost or less.

From a pet store it is very rare. They usually dont carry them there. Usualy you have to find someone that breeds them to get that color. Yes grey/brown is their normal color.

P.S. you are very lucky to have gotten him/her. What price did you pay??
