how did hawk eye (peirce) earn the rank of captain if he disliked the army so much, i love the show, it was mentioned that he was drafted, but how did he get to be captain

He was drafted, and all Doctors, wether voluteers or drafties, start off at the rank of Capt. Nurses 2nd Lt.

I don't know the particular answer to that BUT from watching M*A*S*H since the 70's I can say that it wasn't necessarily the Army that he hated so much...He hated the war and what it did to the people more...I'm sure the character resented the fact that he was drafted and HAD to go, but the character was different in each inception...ei book, movie and series...
From what I have read Alda had a lot of input into the character, imparting his own political views and morals into the characer of Hawkeye.

because he was a doctor in"real life"when he was drafted he automatically went in as an officer.
